Ludwig Baumann is the intendant of the Immling festival in Germany and an opera soloist. He began his singing studies at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich, later earned a grant to study in Los Angeles, and finally continued his education in Rome. At the age of twenty‑one, Baumann received an offer to join the Bavarian State Opera Studio. Later he started working at the “Deutsche Oper am Rhein” opera theatre in Düsseldorf. Having switched from a basso to a baritone while in Rome, Baumann was invited to perform in many famous opera theatres in Germany and elsewhere. He has appeared on stage in Munich, Koln, Hamburg, Dresden and Paris, the Royal Albert Hall in London, as well as the Carnegie Hall in New York. On these stages Mr. Baumann covered almost all operatic roles written for his voice. He not only has had a spectacular career as an opera soloist but has also created and hosted shows for the Bavarian television. The singer was forced to end his career in 1994, after an accident at the Dresden Opera during the performance of Verdi’s „A Masked Ball“. In 1997 Baumann founded the Immling Opera Festival which attracts around twenty thousand spectators each year. Today the artist works across from the stage, as a director and scenographer. He also was responsible for the Immling Singers Competition which ran for eleven years with over a hundred participants annually. Many famous current performers started their careers on that particular stage.
