David Gowland received his education at the Royal College of Music in London and during his studies received prizes at the national opera studio and concertmaster competitions. In 1987 he joined the organizers of the Glyndebourne Opera Festival and worked with them for two decades. From 1989 to 1996 Gowland was the musical personnel director at the Geneva Grand Theatre and assisted renowned conductors, such as Jeffrey Tate, Giuseppe Patanè, Christian Thielemann, Bruno Campanella, Emmanuel Plasson and many others. Gowland has also collaborated with the Paris National Opera, the Netherlands National Opera, the Royal Danish Opera, the “Teatro Real” in Madrid and others, as well as the Aix-en-Provence and Salzburg festivals. He has collaborated with the maestro Jeffrey Tate in Australia on the production of the “The Ring of the Nibelung” tetralogy. Mr. Gowland has performed in festivals in Edinburgh and Aldeburgh, as well as the BBC Proms festival. He is a visiting professor at the National Opera Studio, the British Youth Opera, the Scottish Opera’s Emerging Artists programme, the New National Theatre in Tokyo and all British conservatories. Gowland is a regular member of the jury at national and international competitions, conducts masterclasses not only in Europe, but also in Latin America, Asia, Australia and South Africa. He has also collaborated with the Royal Opera House’s Young Artist Programme ever since its inception in 2000.
